Indiana Dunes visits from Chicago and local hotels

The National Park Service locates the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center on State Road 49 in Porter. It provides a specific starting destination before you continue to a beach, trail or program.

The national park is reached through I-94, the Indiana Toll Road, U.S. 12 and U.S. 20. Its sites are spread along the lakeshore, rather than gathered behind a single entrance. A booked day can therefore name a trailhead or visitor facility and finish at the restaurant or hotel chosen for the evening.

Indiana Dunes National Park and Indiana Dunes State Park are separate parks with different admission rules. The car reservation covers transportation; park entry follows the relevant site's requirements. Any passenger drop-off or collection must use a location open and permitted for the vehicle.

Dune Park station is at State Road 49 and U.S. 12, while the Visitor Center is farther south on State Road 49. They are separate destinations when a visit begins by train. A reserved connection can take the party from the station to its agreed public arrival point.

For a beach day with children, an SUV can carry the family and its belongings between the hotel and the outing. Groups can request a Sprinter when their seating and bags fit. The return can continue to a Northwest Indiana home or a Chicago stay after the day's activities.

Purdue Northwest and Valparaiso University visits

Purdue University Northwest identifies its main campus in Hammond and its branch campus in Westville, in LaPorte County. Hammond visits use the university's 169th Street campus destination. Westville is a different campus farther east, so a Chicago-airport arrival can continue directly to the location hosting the visit.

A prospective student can travel with family to a campus appointment and leave after the tour or admissions meeting. Visiting speakers and colleagues can depart from a Chicago hotel for a university engagement. A private return can collect at the campus and continue to the airport or overnight accommodation.
